The quartet of academics who write the MassPoliticsProfs blog has joined WGBHNews.org as contributors. The MassPoliticsProfs blog went live on the WGBH digital newsroom on Monday. Insights from Maurice T. Cunningham (University of Massachusetts Boston), Jerold Duquette (Central Connecticut State University), Peter Ubertaccio (Stonehill College) and Erin O’Brien (University of Massachusetts Boston), will augment WGBH News’ reporting by bringing political science into mainstream discussions about Massachusetts politics. The blog can now be found directly at blogs.wgbh.org/masspoliticsprofs and on WGBHNews.org.
“An important aspect of the information revolution is making expert opinion available to a wider audience – it’s what's driving new initiatives like Vox and The Upshot. MassPoliticsProfs is less about data and more about insight, and our intent in bringing the blog to WGBH News is for it to do for New England politics what “The Monkey Cage” does for national politics at the Washington Post,” said Peter Kadzis, senior editor at WGBHNews.org. “We’re excited to add this unique expertise to WGBH News as the statewide races heat up moving into November.”
“When we began the MassPoliticsProfs.com blog, we promised to provide local and national political commentary informed by political science research that offered insights not routinely found in the ‘conventional wisdom’,” said Maurice Cunningham, co-founder of MassPoliticsProfs. “The culture of WGBH as a convener of informed ideas and commentary is the ideal place for us to continue making good on that promise, and we’re excited to keep the conversation going at our new home at WGBHNews.org.”
The addition of the MassPoliticsProfs team builds on WGBH News’ commitment to comprehensive local reporting and substantive politics coverage. In addition to being one of only seven Massachusetts media outlets with a full-time statehouse reporter, the WGBH News newsroom also broadcasts a weekly politics podcast, The Scrum, featuring Kadzis, Adam Reilly and David Bernstein. The WGBH News team will produce politics content for radio, TV and web leading up to and following the WGBH and The Boston Globe gubernatorial debate between Democratic nominee Martha Coakley and Republican nominee Charlie Baker, which will be broadcast live on October 21 from WGBH’s studios.
