7 News investigative reporter Hank Phillippi Ryan was one of twelve broadcasters inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame in the 8th annual luncheon held today in Boston.

Hank has been with WHDH since 1982. She's recovered millions of dollars for scammed consumers, saved dozens of homes from foreclosure, sent wrong-doers to prison and forced state officials to resign. She is widely regarded as one of the most hard-hitting, informative investigative reporters in the region, having won numerous awards for her work. Her leading-edge consumer and investigative reports, "Hank Investigates," have become not only widely acclaimed, but also viewers' favorites.

Hank is a highly prized reporter with more than 50 prestigious awards from news organizations all over the world, including 26 Emmy awards.

Before joining 7NEWS in 1982, Hank was a reporter and anchor at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia, she also worked at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana and on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant to a subcommittee of the US Senate Judiciary Committee. Hank also covered Washington D.C. as an editorial assistant at Rolling Stone Magazine.

The other inductees were:

  • Leo Beranek, the founding President of WCVB-TV, Channel 5, who will be 100 years old three days after the luncheon
  • Bruce Schwoegler, WBZ-TV, Channel 4’s now-retired meteorologist
  • Mike Addams, recently retired 40-year Boston on-air personality, veteran of WRKO, WHDH, WZOU, Oldies 103 and recently 17-year host of "Morning Magic" on Magic 106.7
  • Richie Balsbaugh, who transformed a floundering Medford radio station into the powerhouse Kiss 108 and launched Jam'n 94-5
  • Dr. Murray Feingold, WBZ-AM medical editor, host of "Medical Minute" and founder of the Genesis Fund
  • John Garabedian, former WMEX Program Director, founder and owner of WGTR/Natick, founder of owner of V66 television,  host/creator of the nationally syndicated radio program, Open House Party and current owner and operator CodCom, a 4-station group on Cape Cod
  • Dave O’Gara, a 46-year veteran on-air radio personality of Worcester's WORC

Four deceased individuals were also honored at the luncheon in the presence of their respective families, they were:

  • Julia Child, television’s celebrated “French Chef” who originated her programs at WGBH-TV
  • David Ives, who as head of WGBH-TV helped build it into a national powerhouse for the Public Broadcasting Service
  • Lovell Dyett, long-time WBZ-AM talk host and television-radio documentarian
  • Dave MacNeill, the voice of the Boston Pops for 50 years on WCRB-FM, Boston.

The event was held at the Quincy Marriott, and presenters included Harry ‘Bud’ Nelson, Matt Siegel, Natalie Jacobson, Dan Rea, Gary Lapierre, David O’Leary, Anne Sweeney, Laura Carlo, Mark Veau, Robin Young and Bob Lobel.
