A New Hampshire house was engulfed in flames and then exploded on live television as news helicopters flew above, as police responded to a shooting incident there today.

News choppers from WBZ, WCVB & WHDH all caught the explosion as it happened.

An officer was injured, though it was unclear if he was shot or was injured in the explosion, authorities said.

It was unclear what caused the explosion at the house, located in a development called Mill Pond Crossing, a retirement community, police said.

An elderly man named Walter Nolan lived in the home with his son, police said, noting there was an argument at the house, followed by gunshots and the fire, prompting neighbors to call police.

When police arrived at the scene, there was more shooting from inside the house, police said.

The injured officer was flown to Exeter Hospital, and the state Attorney General's office has taken control of the investigation, authorities said.

Neighboring houses were evacuated and firefighters initially stayed away from the blaze because of the suspected shooting, police said.
