"High 5 Salute To Thanksgiving Day Heroes," WCVB's annual half-hour wrap-up program of all the traditional high school football rivalries across the Bay State, airs live Thanksgiving night, November 26, at 7:30 PM on WCVB Channel 5. It will also re-air at 11:30PM, following the conclusion of WCVB's late news.
Thanksgiving Day wouldn't be complete without High School football! There are over 100 games being played on Turkey Day in Massachusetts and this special SportsCenter 5 feature will highlight several of the key gridiron battles. Coverage will include the doubleheader on both Thanksgiving eve and Thanksgiving Day at Fenway Park, featuring some of Greater Boston’s most iconic matchups. It's the first time since 1935 that High School football games will be played at Fenway. The games being played at Fenway include Xaverian vs. Saint John’s Prep and Boston College High vs. Catholic Memorial on Wednesday, November 25. On Thanksgiving Day, games include Wellesley vs. Needham and Boston English vs. Boston Latin. Several other rivalries will be featured as well.
The SportsCenter 5 team, including Mike Lynch and Bob Halloran, has committed more time and resources to reporting this much-anticipated day in high school sports than any other station in New England. In addition, WCVB SportsCenter 5's "High 5" report is in its 31st year of shining the spotlight on outstanding local scholar-athletes this year. Over the past three decades, "High 5" has featured local high school sports teams and players, and has highlighted their various stories of hard work, dedication and perseverance in the pursuit of excellence.
