Kathryn Sotnik is a general assignment reporter for New England Cable News in Boston.
Kathryn joined NECN in April 2013, and spent her first week there covering the Boston Marathon Bombings. Prior to that, she spent five years as a reporter at WPRI-TV CBS 12 in Providence, RI. She has also worked as a reporter at WMUR-TV in Manchester, NH; and WMTW-TV in Portland, ME. She began her professional reporting career at WMGM in Atlantic City, NJ.
A native of Greenville, RI, Kathryn is a graduate of Northeastern University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in television and radio, along with minors in journalism and political science. While at Northeastern, Kathryn was a recipient of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences annual Emmy award for her dedication to TV news.
1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
iPhone 6. My favorite apps are: Twitter, Facebook, Nordstrom, Waze (for all that Boston traffic!) and Starbucks.
2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
I enjoy anything breaking and stories where I can do some good old-fashioned digging for information/door knocks/cold calls/obtaining of records. Also like weather reporting.
Least favorite stories includes child/animal abuse cases.
3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
Public Relations. I also like the idea of working at a bridal shop (maybe just for a day 
- I watch too much “Say Yes to the Dress”)
4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Smurfs.
5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
Playing with my daughter, sunning, resting, browsing on my Nordstrom app!
6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
England with my husband and daughter. Would be a nice family trip. Also love Hawaii.
7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
My mom. She’s a great dinner guest. I’d also invite along Tom Brady.
8. Do you collect anything?
Not anything in particular, although I do like to collect clothes, shoes and bags from shopping.
9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
ACDC “Hells Bells” and “Thunderstruck” (makes me think of going to Pats games) also Jackie Wilson “Higher and Higher” and Roberta Flack “The Closer I get to you.”
10. What is one of your favorite quotes?
“The early bird catches the worm.” Very true for news most times.
11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
Childbirth.
