Emily Volz anchors the morning and noon newscasts on WGGB-TV ABC 40/FOX 6 in Springfield, MA alongside Tom Lewis.
Emily joined WGGB in 2012 from BRC13, a local cable channel in Northeast Pennsylvania, where she was a general assignment reporter. She has also interned at WSHM-LD (before it was part of Western Mass News) in Springfield; and at WTNH-TV in New Haven, CT.
A native of Burlington, NJ, Emily is a 2010 graduate of the University of Connecticut where she attained a degree in journalism and American studies.
1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
iPhone 6. I use it to update my twitter and Facebook during the morning show. And I use Fitbit to track my runs.
2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
Favorite: I like feature and health stories on the desk. In the field, nothing beats breaking news.
Least favorite: Sports. I like watching games, but you can't fake sports knowledge... Especially in New England!
3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
Crying. Just kidding... I think I'd like teaching.
4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
I wasn't huge into cartoons. I remember loving the TGIF lineup -- shows like Boy Meets World and Step by Step... And Nickelodeon game shows like Legends of the Hidden Temple and GUTS
5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
There's nothing better than curling up on the couch with my dog and watching shows. But 30 minutes quickly turns into 60... And so on...
6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I had the amazing opportunity to go to the Amalfi coast in Italy last Fall. It was breathtaking. I would go back in a heartbeat. I'd also love to visit the Northern part of the country.

8. Do you collect anything?
Four leaf clovers. I find them everywhere! I've collected at least 200 since I was a kid.
9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
I lost my iPod in a terrible post Holyoke Road Race tragedy a few years ago. It was my washing machine's most expensive victim. Since then, I've been relying on Pandora to carry me through my workouts. Mostly Pop Hits. Good music has never been my thing.

11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
In this job, we meet so many people who inspire us. During our 12:30 show, I have the opportunity to talk with guests who are overcoming adversity, organizing benefits for complete strangers, and following their dreams by starting their own businesses. Their stories motivate me to work harder.
