CBS News is the #1 broadcast network for coverage of the 2014 midterm elections on Tuesday, Nov. 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings.

How the broadcast ratings were affected by local coverage and network preemption is not known.

In Boston, MA for instance, the CBS News election coverage was aired on WSBK, the ABC News coverage was aired on WCVB 5.2. NBC News election coverage did not air.

In Providence, RI no network election coverage aired at all.

CBS News’ primetime broadcast on the CBS Television Network was first in adults 25-54 (1.3/04) and viewers (5.41m).

CBS EVENING NEWS Anchor and Managing Editor Scott Pelley and CBS THIS MORNING co-host Norah O’Donnell led the primetime coverage. They were joined by:

  • Bob Schieffer, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent and Anchor of FACE THE NATION
  • Charlie Rose, Co-Host of CBS THIS MORNING
  • Gayle King, Co-Host of CBS THIS MORNING
  • Anthony Mason, Co-Host of CBS THIS MORNING: Saturday

  • Nancy Cordes, CBS News Congressional Correspondent
  • John Dickerson, CBS News Political Director
  • CBS News correspondents in battleground states around the country

In addition to the broadcast coverage, CBS News utilized its Twitter account @CBSPolitics to communicate all election projections and characterizations. CBS News used Twitter and other social media to introduce a new level of transparency into all CBS News political reporting and revealed internal guidance on competitive races as soon as the information was reportable.
