Heather Hegedus has been named weekend morning news anchor at WFXT-TV FOX 25 in Boston, New England One has learned.
 
Heather has been with FOX 25 since January 2012, joining the station as the weekend evening anchor. She moved to a reporter and fill-in anchor position shorty after Cox Media Group took over the station in October 2014.
 
Heather joined FOX 25 from WFSB-TV CBS 3 in Hartford, CT where she was the weekend morning anchor of Eyewitness News This Morning, and reported during the week. While at WFSB, Heather broke several stories including the abrupt resignation of New Haven's police chief in the middle of his contract, as that city experienced one of its worst homicide rates in years. She was also one of the first anchors to go on the air to report a power plant explosion that killed six workers. In 2011, she won first place Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists awards for breaking news, general reporting, and investigative reporting.
 
Prior to that, she was an anchor and lead reporter at WSYR-TV ABC 9 in Syracuse, NY, and was part of a news team that was awarded Edward R. Murrow, SPJ, and AP awards. While there, she gained national exposure on The Weather Channel and CNN covering lake-effect snowstorms, and a Syracuse developer's plans to build the world's largest mall.
 
She has also been a weeknight anchor at WIVT-TV in Binghamton, NY; and a video journalist at Time Warner Cable's NY1 News in New York City.
 
Heather has also worked behind the scenes at the NBC News Washington Bureau in Washington, DC. While there, and following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Heather interviewed then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Jordan's Queen Noor. She also field produced coverage from the White House and Pentagon.
 
Heather started her career in television news as a field producer for PBS's The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. She was chosen by PBS Magazine to interview Lehrer about his experiences moderating years of Presidential Debates during her time there.
 
A native of Lynfield, MA, Heather graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University in 2000 with a degree in government, and spent a year at the London School of Economics in England. 
 
The recovery efforts after September 11 are one reason Heather chose to attend Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism for her graduate degree. She graduated in 2003 with high honors from Columbia with a Master's degree in broadcast journalism. 
 
Heather will initially be joined by meteorologists Kevin Lemanowicz, Shiri Spear and Sarah Wroblewski who will take turns on the weekends while the search for a permanent meteorologist is finalized.
 
In addition, Chris Wichman has been named assistant director of the weekend morning newscasts. Chris has been with FOX 25 for 15 years, and has held various positions at the station.
 
The new newscast debuts on Saturday, September 12 at 6am.
