Two Washington, D.C. reporters who helped launch the Fox News Channel retired this week.

Wendell Goler, who was most recently the senior White House and foreign affairs correspondent, joined FNC as a foreign affairs correspondent in 1996.

In a note to staff, Goler wrote “The time has come, to taste the joys of retirement. My thanks to [FNC Chairman] Roger [Ailes] for giving me the opportunity to join this endeavor at the start. Thanks to Brit [Hume] for teaching me the power of words.”

Before joining FNC, Goler served as a White House correspondent for the Associated Press Broadcast Services. In that position, Goler anchored all presidential news conferences and was responsible for all coverage related to domestic and foreign presidential affairs. Additionally, he has served as a reporter for several Washington, D.C. stations, including WJLA-TV and WRC-TV.

Goler attended the University of Michigan and is a native of Detroit, Michigan.

His last day on the air was December 3. Goler kept his retirement such a secret that FNC anchor Shepard Smith expressed his shock on the air as he welcomed Goler to his show one last time:

Jim Angle, who was most recently the chief national correspondent, joined FNC in 1996 as a senior White House correspondent.

In a note to staff, Angle said "You are all a joy to work with and I will remember you and my time here fondly. I came to Fox a week before we went on the air at the behest of Brit Hume and it has been the most rewarding part of my career. I was about to sign with CNN when Brit called and said ‘don’t sign anything’ — Roger [Ailes] is going to call you. I was on the road with the Bob Dole campaign  at the time. Roger did call and it has been my pleasure to be here since October of 1996 as Roger has built a powerhouse. I covered 4 Presidents and it was a thrill. I saw the Cold War come to an end, and the Berlin wall come down, which was particularly touching for me since I had given tours of it while stationed in Berlin in the Army."

Prior to joining FNC, Angle was a correspondent at CNN, where he covered politics and the economy. Before CNN, he reported on economic policy as a correspondent for ABC News, and contributed to "World News Tonight," "Nightline" and "Good Morning America." From 1990-1993, he anchored the popular national program "Marketplace," a daily half-hour show on money and business on NPR. He also spent seven years as NPR's senior White House correspondent, covering both the Reagan and Bush administrations.

Angle received his B.A. in political science from Texas Tech University and earned his M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
