The holiday season officially kicks off in Boston with "Holiday Lights," WCVB Channel 5's live broadcast of the City of Boston's official tree-lighting concert, airing Thursday, December 4, 7-8PM, on Channel 5. And for the first time ever, the event will be live streamed on WCVB.com.

Chronicle co-anchors J.C. Monahan and Anthony Everett again host this yuletide celebration featuring Aubrey Peeples from ABC's "Nashville," performers from
Broadway's Motown: The Musical, Brittany Butler from season 7 of The Voice, the New England Patriots Cheerleaders, Holy Tabernacle Church Christmas Cantanta Choir, The Stanfields rock band from Nova Scotia, the Floorlords dance troupe, comedian Jimmy Tingle, among others.

"Holiday Lights is a wonderful collaboration that not only entertains, but brings to life the magic of the holiday season for the people of Boston," said Bill Fine, WCVB President and General Manager. "Channel 5 takes great pride in its community involvement and, for more than a decade running, is honored to bring this much anticipated Boston tradition into the homes of viewers."

Mayor Martin J. Walsh will kick off this year's festivities, and the event marks his first official Boston holiday tree lighting as Mayor. Santa Claus will make a special appearance and the event will conclude with a dazzling fireworks display during the official lighting of the holiday tree.

Boston Common and the Public Garden will light up in sequence when Mayor Walsh throws the switch, along with the Honourable Stephen McNeil, Premier of Nova Scotia, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Santa Claus, on Boston’s official holiday tree, a 43-foot white spruce.

The tree is a gift from the people of Nova Scotia to the people of Boston in memory of the 1917 explosion in Halifax Harbor when Boston citizens rallied with supplies, volunteers and other aid. The broadcast is made possible by a partnership with WCVB Channel 5, Boston Parks and Recreation, The Province of Nova Scotia, Magic 106.7 FM.
