  • Alex DiPrato is a general assignment reporter at WSVN-TV FOX 7 in Miami, Florida.

Alex joined WSVN in 2011 from WPRI-TV CBS 12/WNAC-TV FOX 64 in Providence, Rhode Island where he was a reporter and fill-in anchor. While there, he covered everything from snowstorms to the death of Senator Ted Kennedy. Prior to his three years in Providence, Alex was a reporter and weekend anchor at WTXL-TV in Tallahassee, Florida. He started his professional career behind the scenes as a writer and associate producer at WSVN, and also interned there during college.

A native of Broward County in Florida, Alex is a 2003 graduate of the University of Miami where he studied broadcast journalism and political science.

    1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
I'm always on Twitter because it's instantaneous for breaking news. I love my maps app and the WSVN weather app to keep track of thunderstorms.

    2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
Breaking news is a favorite -- no matter the topic -- and politics -- especially this election cycle.

    3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
I'd probably be a lawyer or detective,  however I can't really see myself doing anything else than working in news.  I'm a news junkie.

    4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
     Ninja Turtles and Duck Tales.

    5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
I try to get to the gym on a regular basis -- or I'd be reading something online.

    6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
Bali and Greece.  I plan to knock Greece off the list next year!

    7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
     Any president.

    8. Do you collect anything?
I have a small collection of mic flags. I've also started to collect some art.

    9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
I actually don't download a lot of music, but I do play music from tunein radio and the iheartradio apps.  Who doesn't like the 80's?!

    10. What is one of your favorite quotes?
"Don't take 'no' for an answer." It's simple -- but has served me well.

    11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
In a general sense -- TV News.  There are long and sometimes odd hours but you can't be successful unless you put the time in!

Throwback Thursday Bonus Question: How has your life changed since moving on from WPRI, and what do you miss most about Providence?
It was always a childhood dream to work at WSVN. I know how lucky I am to be working in my hometown at the station I grew up watching. What do I miss most about Providence? The people in Rhode Island were so welcoming -- it felt at times I grew up there. I also miss the cooler weather -- but only at Christmastime!
