  • Tina Martin is currently a reporter at WGBH News in Boston, and contributes to the stations two flagship television shows Greater Boston and Basic Black; as well as 89.7 FM radio NPR affiliate shows Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

    Tina came to WGBH from the Huffington Post where she is currently a freelance contributor. Prior to that, she spent 6 years as an anchor and reporter at WFSB-TV CBS 3 in Hartford, where she also hosted a segment called "Tina Around Town." During her time at WFSB, she won several awards. She was the 2009-2010 winner of the Jacque Minnottee National Health Reporting Fellowship from the Radio Television Digital News Foundation. She was chosen as Best Local TV Reporter by readers of Hartford Magazine in the 2011 Best of Hartford Contest. Tina's series Tina Around Town was honored by the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists in the 2010 Excellence in Journalism contest. Tina has also worked as a freelance reporter for "Worcester News Tonight" & New England Cable News; a freelance writer for WCVB-TV ABC 5; and an anchor and reporter for WMCT-TV. In addition, she spent 3 years at WATD-FM 95.5 radio in Greater Boston as a reporter and anchor.

    A native of Boston, Tina is a graduate of Emerson College where she received a Bachelor's degree in mass communication and broadcast journalism.

    1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
     I have an iPhone and my favorite apps are Shazam and WGBH.

    2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
     Meetings are my least favorite.

    3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
     I would be an actress or a singer.

    4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
     My favorite cartoon was Teenage mutant ninja turtles.

    5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
     I hit the gym.

    6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
     I would be on any island with blue water, it's peaceful and warm.

    7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
     Russell Crow or Denzel Washington, two of my favorite actors.

    8. Do you collect anything?
     Music!! I love music... and makeup and shoes!

    9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
     Janet Jackson's new cd “Night” and “Unbreakable” and “Sound and Color” from Alabama Shakes.

    10. What is one of your favorite quotes?
     “The person who says it cant be done should not interrupt the person doing it.” - Chinese Proverb.

    11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
     I think moving from one job to another and becoming more in control of my career.
