Maureen Capasso is joining WPRI-TV CBS 12/WNAC-TV FOX 64, the Media General duopoly in Providence, RI, as assistant news director.
WPRI news director Karen Rezendes tells New England One that Rebecca Johnson, the current assistant news director, will be moving on to the same role at Media General sister station WNCN-TV in Raleigh, NC.
Maureen joins WPRI from Tribune's KDVR-TV FOX 31/KWGN-TV CW 2 in Denver, CO where she has been the executive news producer for all evening newscasts since 2012. An award winning producer, Maureen won a Heartland Chapter EMMY® Award in 2014 for best evening newscast. She is also nominated for 5 awards this year, which will be handed out on July 18. She's also been recognized for excellence by the Colorado Broadcasters Association.
Prior to KDVR, Maureen spent almost 8 years at WHDH-TV in Boston, most recently as executive producer. While at WHDH, she worked her way up from a weekend producer, to weekend evenings then weekday evenings. She was later promoted to executive producer of the weekend evening newscasts, then to executive producer of the weekday 10pm news on WLVI-TV.
Maureen started her career at WFOR-TV in Miami, FL, where she was a producer for the weekend morning newscasts.
A native of Reading, MA, Maureen is a 2003 graduate of the University of Miami where she studied broadcast journalism and political science.
Maureen starts her new role at WPRI on August 3.
