Chelsi McDonald has joined WHDH 7 in Boston as a sports reporter.

"I've traded gumbo for clam chowder! I'm so excited to announce that I'm the newest member of the WHDH Sports team!" Chelsi said in a post on her Facebook page.

"Chelsi is a huge football fan and is thrilled to be covering the Pats and all our top notch teams" said WHDH news director Linda Miele in an email to staff.

Chelsi joins WHDH from WGNO ABC 26 in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was most recently a sports reporter and anchor.

Prior to that, Chelsi was a sports anchor and multimedia journalist at WJCL ABC 22 in Savannah, Georgia. While in Savannah, she helped make a difference in the community by covering news and sports. Through Chelsi’s persistence, a utility company fixed a leaning power pole. Chelsi also helped fix a major pothole problem for a small neighborhood by holding their mayor accountable.

While Chelsi enjoys being an advocate for her community, she has a passion for local sports coverage. One of her favorite stories is of a 13-year-old weightlifter who has a great chance of joining the USA Olympic Team. She is a big fan of High School sports and enjoyed co-anchoring Savannah’s “Gridiron Live” Friday night show.

Chelsi started her broadcast career at KCRG ABC 9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a sports reporter and anchor. She was also a sideline reporter for College and High School football games.

Chelsi is a graduate of Florida State University where she received a Bachelor's degree in mass media and communications. She also received her minor degree from Florida A&M University in broadcast journalism.

During her college years, she worked as a Sports Reporter for SunSports and WFSU. Chelsi was the evening Sports Anchor and News Reporter for a daily, live newscast, “News 20 at 5”. She also interned at the Golf Channel, local television, and Cumulus Media radio stations. All of this she did alongside being a member of the Florida State University Cheerleading squad for all four years, including taking on the role as co-captain during one of those seasons.

Chelsi started at WHDH on October 25.
