Josh Brogadir has joined Boston's WCVB ABC 5 as a freelance sports reporter and anchor.
"I am grateful, humbled, honored, and excited for the opportunity to join the team as a sports anchor and reporter at WCVB, Boston's renowned ABC station" Josh said on Facebook. "Most importantly, I wish Bob Halloran all the best as he recovers and look forward to working with him when he returns to Channel 5."
Most recently, Josh was a reporter at necn. He joined NECN in 2008 as a general assignment reporter, and was also a fill-in anchor. Starting in 2012, he joined NBCUniversal sister station Comcast SportsNet New England as a freelance sports anchor.
While at necn, Brogadir reported extensively from the scenes of the Boston Marathon bombings and manhunt through Cambridge and Watertown; the capture of James 'Whitey' Bulger in Santa Monica, CA; the attack in Sandy Hook, CT; and the deadly tornado that carved a path through western and central Massachusetts. He also followed the Red Sox to St. Louis during the 2013 World Series and covered the Patriots Super Bowl XLIX victory in Glendale, AZ in 2015. He left necn in June 2015.
Prior to necn, Josh spent two years as a reporter at WNEP-TV in Scranton, PA, where he won an Associated Press award for investigative journalism. He's also worked as a reporter at WHOI-TV in Peoria, IL; and KREX-TV in Grand Junction, CO. Before his work on-air, Josh was an associate producer at KNSD-TV in San Diego, CA.
Josh didn't originally start his career in television news - his original track was education. After college, he moved to the Boston area and taught sixth grade social studies in the two way bilingual program at Walsh Middle School in Framingham, MA. He also taught in the Framingham Adult English as a Second Language program and coached 7th and 8th grade football.
After three years as a teacher, and training as a vice principal for a few months, Josh decided to switch careers and move to San Diego, where he joined KNSD and also did on-site promotions for a radio station.
A native of Woodbridge, CT, Josh is a 1999 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor's degree in anthropology and Latin American studies.
Josh is also a voiceover artist and actor, with 15 films, 2 TV/Web series, several commercials, and 15 audiobooks to his credit. When not covering games for Channel 5, he can often be found running, biking, or hiking the trails of New England with his wife, Becca, and kids, Sophie and Nathan.
