Shannon Mulaire is coming back to Boston to join New England Cable News, the nation’s largest regional news network, as a news anchor.

Shannon currently anchors Early TODAY on NBC and First Look on MSNBC and brings nearly a decade of local television experience to NECN. Before her current post, Shannon worked at WFXT-TV FOX 25 in Boston, for nearly five years, working her way up from general assignment reporter to weekend anchor before being ultimately named weekday morning anchor in January 2012. She anchored WFXT’s morning news show until she left in 2014, shortly after Cox Media Group took over the station.

“Shannon is smart and enthusiastic with a strong command of the anchor desk and an ability to engage viewers,” said Kenny Plotnik, NECN's Vice President of News. “Growing up in Connecticut and going to school and working in Boston, she fully understands New Englanders and the issues they care about because she is one. We are excited to welcome her back home and look forward to getting her on air.”

Before joining WFXT, Shannon was a reporter and fill-in anchor at WTVT-TV FOX 13 in Tampa for two years. She started her career in local television broadcasting at WFTX in Fort Myers, where she worked in various roles for two years.

Shannon holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and cinema and media studies from Wellesley College and a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Emerson College. A New England native, she resides in the Boston area with her husband and two children.

Over the last two years, NECN has experienced a transformation, featuring a brand new, state-of-the-art studio that debuted to viewers last year along with a brighter and more modern newsroom, upgraded technology and tools and a new focus on breaking news and weather coverage. NECN’s new studio includes a “working” Weather Center where the network’s team of meteorologists prepare and deliver their forecasts, including a 10-day forecast during every newscast so local viewers can get ready for any upcoming storms or inclement weather. NECN is also the sister-station to NBC Boston, the new NBC affiliated owned and operated station that is expected to launch next fall (first as an independent station, then joining NBC in January 2017.)

A Connecticut native, Shannon graduated from Wellesley College, double-majoring in Spanish, and cinema and media studies. She later went on to earn a Master's in broadcast journalism from Emerson College, where she received the departmental award for excellence.

Shannon joins NECN on April 4.
