NBC 6 / WTVJ and Telemundo 51 Miami / WSCV today announced that Debra Juarez has been named Vice President, Digital.

NBC 6 / WTVJ and Telemundo 51 Miami / WSCV today announced that Debra Juarez has been named Vice President, Digital.

Her first day will be January 3, 2017. In this newly created role, she will be responsible for overseeing digital content for NBCUniversal’s South Florida duopoly stations, WTVJ and WSCV. She will report to Larry Olevitch, President and General Manager for NBC 6 and Jorge Carballo, President and General Manager for Telemundo 51.

“Debra is no stranger to our market or the Telemundo family and I’m thrilled that she is joining our duopoly operation,” added Jorge Carballo, President and General Manager, Telemundo 51. “Viewers in our market are savvy digital users and by adding Debra to our teams, she will help our stations deliver the information that our viewers want and how they want it.”

Juarez is a seasoned newsroom veteran and has more than 25 years of experience running local newsrooms. She joins NBC 6 and Telemundo 51 after working as news director for NBC 5 Chicago / WMAQ for five years. In addition to overseeing the station’s daily newsroom operations, she also helped to guide the station’s transformation as a local news leader. Under her tenure, NBC 5 has grown its local ratings, has expanded its local newscasts, and the station’s investigative team was recently honored with the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award for its investigative reporting of the Laquan McDonald shooting. Before this, Juarez worked at various local television stations across the country and has held numerous newsroom roles with increasing responsibility. Her experience also extends to NBCUniversal’s 24x7 regional cable news network, necn, where she worked as news director.

She returns to the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market after working at Telemundo network and at Fox affiliate station, WSVN-TV, earlier in her career. Juarez earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of New Mexico. She will be relocating to the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market.
