A few weeks ago, we told you that WFXT-TV FOX 25 in Boston was adding more resources for the second time since Cox Media Group took over the station in 2014.

We now know why.

A FOX 25 representitive has confirmed to New England One that FOX 25 will be starting a weekend morning newscast. In an announcement to staff today, the station said that they are expecting to launch the new newscasts in late summer or early fall.

The newscasts will air each Saturday and Sunday from 6am-10am.

Since CMG took over FOX 25, the resources of the station have substantially increased. The station has also seen success in its turn to hard news in the ratings. In the most recent June rating period, FOX 25 took first place from 4am-5am; 7am-9am; and 10pm-11:30pm in adults 25-54.

FOX 25 had been the only news station in Boston, and the only FOX station that CMG owns, without a weekend morning newscast. The station has had a weekend newscast in the past, airing an hour-long newscast at 9am on Sunday mornings from 2004-2009. Initially, the program was anchored by current Fox News Channel Boston reporter Molly Line.

FOX 25 is still staffing up for the launch of these newscasts. If you're looking for a job in television news, you can visit www.MyFOXBoston.com to browse and apply for all posted positions.
