JC Monahan is leaving Boston's WCVB ABC 5 after 15 years when her contract ends later this year.

"After 15 years at WCVB, where she ably tackled the weather, news and Chronicle, JC Monahan has made the personal decision to move on at the end of her contract later this year" said WCVB president and general manager Bill Fine in an email to staff. "Having personally worked with JC on her career growth and path over the years, I thank her for so many contributions to NewsCenter 5 and Chronicle."

J.C. is an Emmy award-winning journalist and currently co-anchor's WCVB NewsCenter 5 at 4:00, 5:00 and 5:30 PM, and also co-anchor's Channel 5's award-winning nightly news magazine "Chronicle" alongside Anthony Everett. J.C. joined Chronicle in May 2013, and will transition to Chronicle full-time until she leaves the station.

"After deep consideration, I have determined it is time for me to embark on a new adventure" J.C. said in an email to WCVB staff. "It was not an easy decision to leave WCVB, but personal growth comes when you step outside your comfort zone, and I am ready to chart a new course."

"I will never forget the day I received a phone call from WCVB-TV News Director Coleen Marren, asking to meet" she continued. "The idea I could be working for the TV station I grew up watching was beyond exciting. Little did I know, I was embarking on an incredible 15 year journey. I am deeply grateful to have worked for a company that has allowed me to grow and expand my career. I have had the rare opportunity to develop from meteorologist to anchor of Chronicle to evening news anchor. Each step I took was a privilege and I worked hard to keep the trust granted to me by WCVB and the viewers. They too, allowed me to develop over the years. That cumulative support has been uplifting."

"Thank you, WCVB family, for the kindness you have shown me" she said. "I look forward to watching your work and cheering you on. I leave with nothing but gratitude in my heart. It has been a wonderful ride. My best to you all, both personally and professionally. May you continue to find joy in all that you do."

Inside sources tell New England One that the speculation inside the station is that J.C. is headed to NBC Boston. We are told that she has had talks with them, and is close to Phil Lipof, her former co-anchor at WCVB and the current main anchor at NBC Boston.

J.C. joined WCVB as a staff meteorologist in September 2001 and was previously the meteorologist for the weekday editions of "The EyeOpener" and "Midday" newscasts. During her years as a meteorologist, she had appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" as a guest meteorologist. J.C. was also the creator and host of the weekly talk show “Boston’s View.” After the inception of "Boston’s View" in 2009, J.C. has interviewed such notable personalities as comedians Dane Cook and Lenny Clarke, actress Jane Seymour, Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer and sports stars Cam Neely and Jerry Remy.

Previously, J.C. served as the weekend meteorologist for New England Cable News (NECN), a regional cable network. Prior to joining NECN, she worked as the weekend forecaster and entertainment reporter for WPXT-TV in Portland, Maine. Early in her career, she was the news director for WZON-AM in Bangor, Maine, where she earned awards from the Associated Press and Maine Association of Broadcasters for Best Radio Newscast and Best Series Reporting.
