Matt Rascon is joining Boston's WHDH 7 as a weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter.

Matt joins WHDH from KNSD NBC 7 in sunny San Diego, California where he is currently a reporter.

Matt recalls his journalism career really beginning as toddler, watching his father report news from around the world (Matt's dad Art Rascon is an anchor at KTRK ABC 13 in Houston, Texas).

However Matt’s first “real” journalism job came much later in life, starting at KBYI radio in Rexburg, Idaho. Matt transitioned into the television market in Utah, reporting for KTVX in Salt Lake City. He also hosted a national cable show out of BYUTV and anchored for the award winning ElevenNews at Noon on KBYU-TV, a college operated PBS station.

San Antonio born and raised between Los Angeles, Miami and Houston, travel is a common thread throughout his life. Matt spent several months during his high school years studying and travelling throughout Guatemala and Paraguay. During college, he took time off to live in South Africa and Botswana for two years, serving a mission for his church.

Matt is a 2013 graduate of Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in communications and broadcast journalism. He earned an Associate's degree from Brigham Young University - Idaho in 2012.

Matt comes from a reporting family - in addition to his dad being a journalist, Matt's brother Jacob is a correspondent for NBC News.

Matt starts at WHDH in January.
