WHDH NBC 7 has named a new design director and a graphic designer to its creative services team.

whdhcreativesrv062016 rivaMatt Riva has been named design director, announced WHDH creative services director Tiffany Middleton.

Matt replaces Rob Livie, who is stepping down and moving into a part time senior designer role.

Matt is now "back where it all started" said Middleton - he started his professional career at WHDH as an intern in 1988. He was hired full-time that year, and was named design director in 1997.

One of his many award-winning accomplishments in Boston was designing the original "7News Plex" news studio.

Sydney ThayerMatt comes to WHDH from WFXT FOX 25 where he held the same position. He has also held the design director position at WNBC 4 in New York City and at New England Cable News. Matt is a graduate of the New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University.

WHDH has also added Sydney Thayer as a new graphic designer to its team. Sydney, who was an intern at the station in the Fall of 2015, "left such a great impression that she is now joining us full time" said Middleton.

Sydney, a Lesley University College of Art and Design graduate, will be working the early morning shift with 7 News Today in New England.
