The 10th annual Kelley for Ellie Fashion Show was held on Wednesday night in Boston – and a very high-profile surprise guest, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, wowed the crowd and tossed footballs to those in the audience to raise money for the Ellie Fund.
The Ellie Fund is a local charitable organization whose mission is to provide essential support services for breast cancer patients to ease the stresses of everyday life, allowing the focus to be on family, recovery and healing.
The event is named for longtime WCVB reporter Kelley Tuthill who is a breast cancer survivor. The show was hosted by Tuthill and former WCVB anchor Susan Wornick, and WCVB’s female talent served as the models, as they do every year.
The event was a great success raising about $170,000 – about 40% more than last year’s event, thanks largely to Tom’s generous involvement and star power.
Back in 2006, Tuthill was diagnosed with stage 3, level 3 breast cancer. The mother of two bravely invited television cameras into her treatment regimen and documented everything. Ten years later, Tuthill's health is excellent, and the Ellie Fund has grown from helping about 50 patients to more than 600 each year.
This event has raised close to $1 million since WCVB and The Ellie Fund launched the annual event ten years ago.
