She better be careful or Bianca de la Garza will get typecast. The former WCVB-TV morning anchor landed a role in the pilot of NBC’s “Odyssey,” and she plays — you guessed it — a television news anchor. “I left news to do news, I guess,” she told us, laughing. The show, described as a “Traffic”-like thriller, stars Peter Facinelli as a family man and former prosecutor who now works in business intelligence. In the pilot, which was filmed in Boston by veteran TV director Peter Horton, de la Garza plays an anchor named Tania who, at one point, says, “All hell is breaking loose in lower Manhattan.” (A classic line in the faux TV-news genre, if you ask us.) It’s unclear if de la Garza’s will be a recurring role, but Horton seemed impressed, calling her instincts on the set “impeccable.” She’s certainly had plenty of practice. De la Garza recently departed Channel 5 after seven years. Her new company, Lucky Gal Productions, is developing an entertainment and lifestyle show that will air on the ABC affiliate. Meanwhile, you can look for Bianca back behind the news desk on “Odyssey,” debuting in the fall.
