Emily Reimer Returning to NewsCenter 5

WCVB-TV Channel 5 has added a new anchor and familiar face to its NewsCenter 5 roster.  Emily Riemer will return to the station on June 2  announced Bill Fine, President and General Manager of WCVB-TV. 

 

She joins Randy Price as co-anchor of NewsCenter 5 EyeOpener (Mon-Fri 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.), replacing Bianca de la Garza who is departing to launch her new venture, Lucky Gal Productions. 

 

Riemer also joins Erika Tarantal as co-anchor of NewsCenter 5 at Noon.  No stranger to Bostonians, Riemer previously co-anchored WCVB's weekend morning newscasts from March 2011 to May 2013.

"My family and I are thrilled to be returning to Boston," said Riemer.  "We're looking forward to being close to family and I'm excited to work with the people I know to be some of the best in the business here at WCVB."

 

Riemer originally came to WCVB-TV in 2011 from duopolies WSYX-TV and WTTE-TV in Columbus, Ohio, where she served as an award-winning political reporter and news producer.

 

While in Columbus, Riemer filed daily government and public policy stories on topics such as legislative initiatives, election campaigns and the impact of budget cutbacks. Riemer secured an exclusive interview with Marc Dann, then Ohio’s embattled attorney general, on the eve of his resignation. 

 

Riemer was also invited to the White House in December 2010 to interview President Obama, one of only four reporters from local affiliates from around the country.

 

A dedicated volunteer, Riemer served as vice president of a Columbus, Ohio non-profit that provides prom gowns to underprivileged teens in Central Ohio.

 

Prior to her work in Ohio, Riemer was the Saratoga bureau chief for Time Warner Cable’s Capital News 9 in Albany, NY.  She began her broadcast career at Ithaca College’s NewsWatch 16 while studying broadcast journalism at the upstate New York school.  During that time, Riemer was a summer intern with the medical news unit of WCVB.

 

A native of Andover, Mass., Riemer graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  She also holds a masters in international communications from Leeds University in England.
