Jeff Desnoyers is the evening meteorologist at WLNE-TV ABC 6 in Providence, RI.
Jeff joined ABC 6 in October 2015 from FiOS 1 News where he was a meteorologist for the past three years. While there, Jeff forecasted the weather for New Jersey, and Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley, New York. Prior to that, he spent 2 years as the morning and noon meteorologist at WMBD-TV CBS 31 in Peoria, IL. Jeff began his career as a meteorologist at KGWN-TV CBS 5 in Cheyenne, WY in September 2007.
A native of New London, CT, Jeff is a 2009 graduate of Mississippi State Universiry where he earned a Bachelor's degree in geosciences with a concentration in meteorology.
1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
I have an IPhone 5 that I desperately need to upgrade! You would think that my favorite apps would be weather related, but not the case. I am addicted to Yahtzee with Buddies and play as much as I can. I am always listening to music with ITunes and I am updating Twitter and Facebook as often as possible.
2. Favorite and least favorite news/weather topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
Favorite news story is easy. Any event or person(s) who go above and beyond for an organization or indiviual. Donating time and effort for a worthy cause always gives me a good feeling when I watch the story.
Least favorite would be devastation that is related to weather. Watching tragedy caused by weather is hard for me to watch, especially if it could have been avoided with simple steps to stay safe.
3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
Professional bowler and I promise this isn't a joke. I actually have bowled a sanctioned 300 in league and if I had put forth the same effort with bowling as I did my weather career... it could have happened.
4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner. The Road Runner always avoided the elaborate plans and crazy contraptions of the Wile. E. Coyote. In weather, sometimes you feel that way on a daily basis.
5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
Thirty minutes of free time doesn't happen very often, but when it does I can be found taking a half hour walk outside or finding the nearest "DD" to get some coffee...
6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
Sydney, Australia would be my destination of choice. I have always wanted to see the Sydney Opera House. Since I don't like to fly, I would enjoy challenging myself for the incredibly long flight. I figure if I can only make it one-way, I would be stuck in Sydney... how bad could that be?
7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
This question had me thinking the most. The choices are endless, but I would choose my mom. She passed away when I was just 21 and I would love to catch up with her. I am sure she would ask me what the weather is going to be like for the upcoming week so she could make the proper wardrobe selections. She was always very fashionable.
8. Do you collect anything?
Baseball cards. I have a ton and I think (I know) I have a few worth some money.
9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
Elle King "Ex's and Oh's"... Anything Rihanna... and I love Faith No More and play their songs all the time.
10. What is one of your favorite quotes?
"Whether it's cold or whether it's hot...we shall have weather, whether or not!"
11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
Going back to college late in life. I wanted to be a Meteorologist since I was 8 years old. Sometimes life throws some curveballs and you get sidetracked, but I never lost my desire to get my degree and be successful. I was fortuante to get my first opportunity in televsion before I graduated and after graduation everything has played out incredibly well. Not giving up on my dreams continues to motivate me daily.
