Here is a look at what viewership looked like in Boston for the September 2015 rating period.

WCVB won all total household time periods, and won all but one time period in total persons 2+ - WHDH took the noon win away with a difference of 3k viewers. WCVB, WHDH and WFXT all had wins in the advertiser friendly A25-54 demographic.

Highlights for A25-54:

  • WFXT won early morning, but was in a statistical dead heat with WCVB, WCVB won 5a-7a
  • WHDH won the noon newscast for the second month
  • WHDH won 5p-6p, which has not happened since New England One started publishing ratings results
  • WCVB won at 6pm
  • WFXT won at 10pm
  • WHDH won at 11pm almost doubling WCVB and WFXT which tied for second place.

One more interesting thing to look at is the "Maria effect" at WFXT that Jessica Heslam wrote about in the Boston Herald. The station still won at 10pm, but was down 0.3 while WHDH went up 0.3 versus August. Looking back to May, this is also the first month since then that FOX 25's 10pm rating was not higher then all other newscasts at 10pm or 11pm, WHDH was the highest at 11pm. With WHDH's win, though, it's important to note that 7 News at 11pm rated higher that FOX 25 News at 10pm in Fall 2014 as well during football season.  Also, keep in mind that Maris Stephanos did not leave FOX 25 until September 11, and that summer ratings are typically lower than other months. In addition the Fox primetime lead-in was down year over year. There are multiple factors involved in the results - so the full picture may not be clear yet.
