Eric Fisher is the Chief Meteorologist for WBZ-TV CBS 4 and WSBK-TV MyTV 38 in Boston, and also contributes to CBS News nationally.

He came to WBZ from The Weather Channel in Atlanta where he was an on-camera meteorologist. Eric also spent time as a freelance meteorologist at FOX 25 in Boston, and got his start at WGGB-TV ABC 40 in Springfield, MA.

A native of the Boston area, Eric is a 2006 graduate of the State University of New York at Albany where he studied atmospheric science, meteorology, mathematics and physics.

1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
I have a Windows Phone (probably one of 10 people in New England, no offense Microsoft!) and of course my most frequent apps are weather related. There’s a great radar app called MRLevel3 that’s basically like Gibson Ridge radar for your phone. Helps out in weather coverage or of I’m away from the office. I consider all social media apps weather apps too…since it’s how I get so many storm reports from around the country and keep track of what’s going on.

2. Favorite and least favorite news/weather topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
I don’t really have to cover news topics as a Meteorologist…but my least favorite weather stories to cover are tornadoes. They’re always sad, always destructive, and they’re probably the one type of weather you can’t do much about to avoid.

3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
I’d be a Marine Biologist (is that a Titleist?). Always thought that if I didn’t go into weather, I’d love to do research with sea creatures…have always been drawn to the ocean and the huge range of diversity that lives in or along it.

4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Scooby Doo, FTW

5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
I’m a constant reader…go through piles of books when I have free time. I used to travel a lot more and could throw down a book in one flight. I mix it up between current affairs, crime thrillers, environmental books, and war stories.

6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I’ve been very fortunate to be able to travel to quite a few amazing places in the past…but next up on my list is Africa. Would love to go see the Great Migration someday.

7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
My wife! I don’t get to see her nearly enough.

8. Do you collect anything?
As a kid I used to collect baseball cards and all the old coca-cola stuff that you can find at flea markets and ebay. Now as I get to be an old guy I feel like I’m just trying to have as little as possible around. We have a very small apartment and try to collect as little as possible. We even have a rule – we’re not allowed to buy any new clothes unless there’s something we don’t want anymore and can donate to Goodwill. Something has to be donated if something is going to be added.

9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
I know this is pathetic, but I don’t have an ipod. I don’t even have music on my phone. But I do keep Spotify on at work…and it’s usually on Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, or a jazz channel.

10. What is one of your favorite quotes?
“No man is a failure that has friends” was my High School yearbook quote and I think it’s still a good one. Keep good people around you and even the tough times in life will be easier.

11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
My father passed away a couple of years ago and I think it just helps to readjust your views on life and what’s important. It also inspired me to start up a scholarship program in his name, and via that I’ve started running marathons to raise money. Having that memory helps me stay motivated.
