After over 20 years at WBZ-TV, most recently as cheif correspondent, Joe Shortsleeve has joined Boston public relations firm Liberty Square Group as senior advisor.

Shortsleeve will focus on giving media relations advice to Liberty Square clients.

Shortsleeve was one of three reporters let go by WBZ in October.

Shortsleeve, an Emmy award winning journalist, draws upon over thirty years of experience as an investigative reporter and television news anchor. He has interviewed some of the most influential leaders in the New England region and has an extensive network of contacts.

Shortsleeve also served as the Evening News Anchor for WBZ-TV from 1997 until 2004, and the primary weekday morning news anchor from 1994 to 1997. He also anchored the news coverage from the Boston Garden during the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004.

Shortsleeve told the Boston Business Journal he started talking with Scott Ferson, president of Liberty Square Group, about his potential employment last winter. He considered other potential employers, but Ferson's shop was the first on the list. Shortsleeve says he's always thought highly of Ferson based on their interactions over the years.

He adds that his departure from WBZ last month as amicable. "I've been on one side of the camera for 30-plus years," Shortsleeve says, "so it's nice to be on the other side."

Shortsleeve is a graduate of Holy Cross College and Boston College High School. He has three children and lives in the MetroWest region.
