First on New England One, the Federal Communication Commission has approved the sale of WFXT-TV FOX 25 in Boston to Cox Media Group.

FOX Television Stations and Cox Media Group announced they were swapping a handful of stations in July.

When the deal closes, Cox Media Group will receive WFXT-TV as well as WHBQ-TV FOX 13 in Memphis, TN. Fox Television Stations, Inc. will in turn acquire KTVU-TV FOX 2 and KICU-TV 36 both in San Francisco, CA.

Both WFXT and WHBQ will remain FOX affiliates after the sale closes, as a deal sweetener for Cox, Fox struck long-term affiliation deals with the Boston and Memphis stations.

“This is the first time we have had a media presence in Boston and Memphis, and CMG is excited about the prospects that WFXT-TV and WHBQ-TV bring to our business,” Cox Media Group president Bill Hoffman said when the deal was first announced.

The sale of KTVU and KICU to Fox Television Stations is still awaiting FCC approval, but should be granted soon.
