Two outstanding individuals will be honored this fall by Bridgewell, a leading provider of services to adults with disabilities in Eastern Massachusetts headquartered in Lynnfield.

The awards will be presented at Bridgewell’s “Imagine the Possibilities” fundraising gala to be held on Nov. 7 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston.

Bridgewell will present its 2014 Visionary Leadership Award to Helen Tager-Flusberg, Ph.D., Director and Principal Investigator, and Professor, Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, at Boston University. Her pioneering research on autism makes her the ideal recipient of Bridgewell’s Visionary Leadership Award, which recognizes an outstanding individual for excellence to a community or social cause.

The 2014 Excellence in Service Award will be presented at the gala to Bill Fine, President and General Manager of WCVB-TV, Channel 5. The Excellence in Service Award is reserved for those who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to those in need in our communities. Under Bill Fine’s leadership, WCVB-TV Channel 5 has been a true champion for scores of non-profit organizations that work tirelessly, often with limited resources, to help those in need.

“WCVB-TV has partnered with Bridgewell to increase its exposure to the greater Boston market and beyond. None of this would have been possible without the support of Bill Fine and the team he leads. The station’s philanthropic and civic commitment is truly admirable, and we are thrilled to honor him and WCVB-TV in November,” said Bridgewell CEO Robert Stearns.

“I am deeply grateful for this honor and look forward to celebrating on November 7 the many extraordinary programs that Bridgewell runs, all designed to help people achieve their fullest potential throughout their lives,” said Bill Fine.

“Helen Tager-Flusberg’s long-standing interests in language and social-cognitive development in a number of different populations, especially autism, Williams syndrome, and developmental language disorders, are the essential scientific underpinnings of the work we do every day with young adults on the autism disorder spectrum,” said Bob Stearns. “Her research will have long-term benefits in improving the quality of life for the individuals whom we serve.”

Said Tager-Flusberg, “I am greatly honored to be recognized by Bridgewell, an organization that stands out for its deep and abiding commitment to serving individuals with developmental disabilities and for the very high standards of excellence it demonstrates in providing those services every day.” She continued, “I am particularly impressed with their new and expanding day and residential programs for those on the autism spectrum, an area in which Bridgewell has become a leader in the field.”

The gala will be emceed by former WBZ-TV sportscaster Bob Lobel.
