Veteran Canadian TV anchor Kevin Newman endured a cutthroat late 1990s Good Morning America gig.

Now the former ABC news anchor has seen his Canadian cable TV show, Kevin Newman Live, be canceled after only seven months on the CTV News Channel.

The current affairs show aimed to bridge the gap between social media and breaking news with episodes like "Taking down Isis one tweet at a time," and "Woman's appeal for help in Ukraine goes viral."

But ripped-from-social media storylines didn't sustain enough of an audience for the 24 hour news channel, which pulled the plug on Newman's show on Monday.
The former Good Morning America co-host initially joined Bell Media to co-anchor its political talker Question Period.

That hire followed Newman ending a ten-year run anchoring Global National, rival Shaw Media’s flagship TV newcast.

During his seven year stint with ABC News in New York, Newman also hosted and reported for Nightline and World News Tonight.
