Veteran anchor and Cape Cod native, Doug Meehan will join WCVB Channel 5, Boston's News Leader, as Weekend Morning Anchor and General Assignment Reporter beginning Saturday, December 19 as announced today by Bill Fine, WCVB President and General Manager.

Meehan is an established local-favorite journalist having previously worked at five television stations in New England, as well as hosting his own Boston radio program. Meehan will co-anchor Saturday morning (5-7AM & 8-9AM) and Sunday morning (5-7AM & 8-10AM) newscasts with Antoinette Antonio.

"We are delighted to have Doug join WCVB's winning team of journalists, and we know his local roots, as well as his experience covering the region, will be great assets to our news organization," said Fine when making the announcement. "I'm sure viewers will be happy to see Doug back on Boston television."

"Having grown up in West Yarmouth, and having worked in broadcasting in Boston for nearly twenty years, I have always recognized WCVB as the gold standard, the quintessential local news, and my long-time favorite…it's an honor to be a part of the outstanding team."

Meehan returns to Boston from KPNX-TV in Phoenix, AZ where he served for nearly three years as a news anchor. For nearly two years prior to that, he was host of "The Doug Meehan Show" on Boston's WTKK 96.9 FM as well as a contributor on The Wall Street Journal Radio Network in New York. For more than six and a half years before that, Meehan was a highly-acclaimed reporter and anchor at Boston's WFXT-TV where he was the market's first full-time helicopter reporter covering traffic as well as breaking news.

Prior to that, Meehan worked at Boston's WHDH-TV as a reporter and relief anchor. For six years before that, Meehan worked as an anchor at KTVT-TV in Dallas, TX; WFAA-TV also in Dallas; WTSP-TV, Tampa, FL; and KEYE-TV in Austin, TX. Before leaving New England, Meehan was a news, weather, and sports anchor at WPRI-TV in Providence, RI, and prior to that he was a reporter at New England Cable News. He began his news career as an anchor and reporter at Cape 11 News in South Yarmouth, MA.   

Honored in 2006 by Boston Magazine as one of Boston's "The Fabulous 40," Meehan grew up in West Yarmouth and attended Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. He graduated from Westfield State University in Westfield, MA earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with concentrated study in Broadcasting.
