ABC News President James Goldston sent the following note to the news division this morning announcing that Stacia Philips Deshishku has been named Deputy Washington Bureau Chief:

Team–

I’m delighted to announce that Stacia Philips Deshishku is joining ABC News today as Deputy Washington Bureau Chief.

She is a passionate, innovative, and creative journalist, with a deep background in both newsgathering and storytelling, and she will be an important part of Jonathan Greenberger’s leadership team in the Washington bureau.

Stacia began her career in Washington in 1990 as a Production Secretary for 60 Minutes, moving through the ranks before she joined CNN as a DC Assignment Editor and Pool Coordinator. She has covered the White House extensively, during the 1992 Inauguration of President Bill Clinton, as CNN’s Manager of Political Coverage during the 2000 election cycle, and as the head of CNN’s White House unit.

But, her career goes far beyond the Beltway. Most recently, Stacia sharpened her impeccable news sense as the Director of CNN’s News Planning, and prior to that she was their Director of Coverage for CNN’s National Assignment Desk. She has experience across the country and around the globe—working as a producer in the field and as an assignment editor. In 2004, as Supervising Producer for the Midwest region, she led the network’s Peabody award-winning team coverage of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. She has also received the Peabody for CNN’s coverage of the 2008 presidential campaign and its 2010 coverage of the gulf oil spill.

As Deputy Bureau Chief, Stacia will play an important role in helping drive our journalism and storytelling. Her story sense and extensive experience with breaking news coverage are an important addition to our DC team, and will help take our Washington reporting to even greater heights.

Please join me in welcoming Stacia to the ABC News family.

James
