Alexandra Cowley has been promoted to main anchor alongside John DeLuca at Providence station ABC 6, and will start on August 20th.

 

The announcement was made in Providence by Nic Moye, News Director at WLNE-TV/ABC6, “We are excited to have Alexandra join John for our 6 and 11pm broadcasts. Her commitment to the community and exceptional storytelling skills make her the perfect complement to our evening news team.”

Alexandra replaces Karen Meyers who left the station in May after she decided not to renew her contract.

Alexandra joined ABC 6 in September of 2011 and has been co-anchor or the stations 5 and 5:30 pm weekday Newscasts with Mark Curtis.

Alexandra joined ABC 6 from Gainesville, FL station WCJB-TV where she reported and anchored. While in Gainesville, Alexandra reported on events that received national attention. She covered the infamous Terry Jones and his burning of the Quran that caused unrest worldwide. She shed light on the prescription pill epidemic and uncovered a Florida doctor accused of over prescribing medication to his patients that resulted in 34 deaths.

Alexandra was born and raised in Florida and is a graduate of Florida State University where she received a degree in Mass Media Communications.

Alexandra lives in Cumberland, Rhode Island with her husband Lucas and dog Diesel.  “Having lived in southern New England these past few years I have fallen in love with the change of seasons.  The people I have met along the way and the stories they have shared truly make this place I now call home special,” Alexandra stated.
