11 Questions with Amanda Raus

Amanda Raus is an anchor for the Fox Connecticut Morning News on WTIC-TV FOX 61 in Hartford.

 

Amanda joined FOX CT in June from WVIT-TV NBC 30 (NBC Connecticut) where she has been a general assignment reporter since 2007. Since 2011 she had been working as the stations New Haven bureau reporter, and was a weekend anchor. Before NBC Connecticut, Amanda spent two years at WSHM-LD CBS 3 in Springfield, MA as a reporter. She got her start as an associate producer and reporter at News 12 Connecticut.

 

A native of Monroe, CT, Amanda is a graduate of Syracuse University where she earned a degree in broadcast journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications. Amanda also received a Master's degree in business administration from Quinnipiac University.

 

1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?

 I have iPhones for both home and work.  My favorite apps are the usual favorites - Facebook and Twitter.

 

2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?

 I feel extremely lucky to be able to cover all kinds of news stories in my home state.  As for favorite topics, I love to cover inspirational stories where someone is making a difference.  I dislike covering any story where a child suffers.

 

3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?

 I wanted to be a doctor growing up, so I'd like to think I'd be in the medical field.

 

4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

 Jem was my favorite cartoon and also a favorite Halloween costume for quite a few years!

 

5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?

 Relaxing - preferably on a beach!

 

6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

 I would love to travel to Italy and see the town where my grandfather was from.

 

7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

 Vince Vaughn - because it would be a dinner full of laughs.

 

8. Do you collect anything?

 I recently started collecting ornaments as souvenirs from each place I travel to.

 

9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?

 "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra - since I recently got married, and it was our first dance song

 "Piano Man" by Billy Joel - because he's one of my favorite artists

 "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon - because I can't seem to get enough of that song!

 

10. What is one of your favorite quotes?

 "Sing like no one's listening, love like you've never been hurt, dance like nobody's watching, and live like its heaven on earth." - Mark Twain

 

11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?

 I lost three loved ones in a short period of time, and it made me a stronger person, both for myself and for my family.
