Matt Reed has joined Sinclair's WJAR-TV NBC 10 in Providence, RI as a reporter.

WJAR news director Chris Lanni tells New England One that “NBC 10 has the largest news team in Southern New England and we’re happy to further expand our coverage for our viewers with the addition of reporter Matt Reed.”

Matt joins WJAR from KCEN-TV NBC 9 in Waco, TX where he was a reporter, and also a producer for weekend newscasts. While at KCEN, Matt reported on the West Fertilizer plant explosion, the April 2nd Fort Hood Shooting, the trial of Maj. Nidal Hassan, and the passing of Texas House Bill 2.

"After two GREAT years in Central Texas it's time for the next journey. Happy to announce that I'm heading back East to join the WJAR-TV news team in Providence, RI" Matt said on Facebook. "Thank you to all my coworkers/family at KCEN and the entire Central Texas community... I'm a better reporter and person for having known all of you. Stay in touch and send warm thoughts as I head into the snow!"

During his time in Texas, Matt was also an adjunct professor at Baylor University where he taught introductory journalism course "Beginning Reporting & Writing."

Prior to his time out West, Matt was a news writer at WHDH-TV NBC 7 in Boston during his last semester of grad school. Matt also spent two months in London covering the 2012 Summer Olympics as one of three student correspondents for WBZ-TV in Boston. While there, he covered presidential candidate Mitt Romney's visit to London and Massachusetts native Kayla Harrison becoming the first American male or female to win an Olympic gold medal in judo.

Matt has also interned at WFOR-TV CBS 4 in Miami, FL; WFTX-TV FOX 4 in Fort Myers, FL; and at WPLG-TV ABC 10 in Miami, FL.

A native of Naples, FL, Matt is a 2011 graduate of the University of Miami where he studied broadcast journalism, theater arts and business law. He is also a 2013 graduate of Boston University where he achieved a Master's degree in broadcast journalism.

While at Boston University, Matt was a co-creater for www.BUNewsService.com, which was a website created to showcase the best work from BU's journalism students.

Matt has also reported, anchored and produced for Boston University's BUTV, and the University of Miami's UMTV.

Politics and sports are Matt's favorite topics to cover, and college football season is his favorite time of the year (especially when the Miami Hurricanes are winning.)

Matt found his passion for broadcast journalism in high school while watching the nightly news every night with his dad.

Matt's first day at WJAR was on Monday, his first report aired last night.
