Tyisha Fernandes is joining Atlana station, and Cox Media Group flagship, WSB-TV Action News 2 as a reporter.

Tyisha has most recently been a Zumba instructor at her Zumba studio in Brockton, MA. In 2012, she left WFXT FOX 25 in Boston where she had been a general assignment reporter since 2010.

Previously, she was a weekend anchor/reporter at WFTX-TV FOX 4 in Ft. Myers, FL.

While at WFTX FOX 4, Tyisha exposed the highly inefficient and costly school transportation system in Lee County. The story led to a state audit and overhaul of the bus system saving taxpayers nearly two-hundred thousand dollars and shortening the bus ride for school children. Tyisha received an Edward R. Murrow Award for continuing coverage and positive changes resulting from three months of in-depth news coverage on the bus story.

Tyisha got her start as a multimedia journalist at KWES in Midland, TX, where she was promoted to weekend anchor in 2005.

Tyisha is a 2002 graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. where she studied broadcast journalism.

A native of Brockton, MA, Tyisha's childhood TV idol was longtime WBZ news anchor Liz Walker. Her childhood curiosity and tendency to always ask her parents “why” made reporting a natural career choice. She credits her mother with pushing her to do what was in her heart and answer the questions and to tell the stories that were important to her and the people in her community.
