Dan Jaehnig has received a promotion at WJAR-TV NBC 10 in Providence, and has added anchoring the 5pm newscast to his duties.

Dan now joins Patrice Wood at 5pm and 11pm, and anchors the 5:30pm and 7pm newscasts with Emily Volz. Gene Valicenti will continue to co-anchor the 6pm news with Patrice.

Station management wanted to increase Dan's profile and presence at the station, and the move was made official a few weeks ago.

"I'm excited for the challenge of taking on a new newscast" Dan told New England One. "I'm looking forward to working with our team to continue to be the number one choice for news in Southern New England."

A six-time Emmy Award winning journalist, Dan joined WJAR for the second time in 2008 from WFXT-TV FOX 25 in Boston where he was an anchor and reporter. He joined WJAR the first time as an anchor and reporter before he left in 2002 to join FOX 25. He also worked at WWLP-TV NBC 22 in Springfield, MA as an anchor and investigative reporter. Before WWLP, Dan spent a short time on the assignment desk at WPRI-TV CBS 12 in Providence.

During his career, Jaehnig has been front and center on numerous breaking stories. He reported live from New York City on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and was on the air extensively with live coverage of The Station nightclub fire in West Warwick, Rhode Island. He has covered many other stories from President Reagan's funeral in Washington D.C., to Martha's Vineyard where JFK Jr.'s plane crashed, to Ireland on a special series focusing on New England's Irish roots. He also reported during the Boston Marathon bombing, for which he was a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for journalism excellence in Field Anchoring and Reporting. Recently, he covered Pope Francis' historic visit to the United States.

Dan is a native New Englander, having grown up the youngest of seven brothers in Quincy, MA. He is a graduate of Suffolk University in Boston, and in 2004 was given the University's Outstanding Alumni Award.
