Phil Lipof is an anchor and reporter at WCVB-TV in Boston, anchoring the weekday 5pm & 5:30pm broadcasts and reporting for other newscasts.
Before coming to WCVB in 2013, Phil was the weekend morning anchor, and a reporter at WABC-TV ABC 7 in New York City. Prior to joining WABC, Phil was an anchor/reporter at WHDH-TV NBC 7 in Boston. He has also been an anchor and reporter at WFOR-TV in Miami, FL; WRNN-TV in Kingston, NY; and KIDK-TV in Jackson, WY.
A native of Newton, MA, Phil is a 1995 graduate of Syracuse University where he studied speech communication and writing. Phil actually started his career at WCVB, interning with Chet Curtis and Natalie Jacobson.
1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
I have an iPhone 6 (I am a gadget guy) – most of my apps are either Social Media or News based – but these days I do love my table top tennis and Trivia crack!
2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
I love covering any story where the result is helping someone. Not a big fan of standing in 6 feet of snow for hours on end!3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
I would either be a Rock Star (frustrated guitarist) or a teacher.4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
The Roadrunner.5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
If I couldn’t spend it with my wife and kids - The Gym – it’s what keeps me sane.6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I would go to Tibet. I am fascinated by Buddhism.7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
It’s a tie between the Dalai Lama and Jimmy Page!8. Do you collect anything?
I collect cuff links – over 100 pairs so far.

August 15th of last year, I had a life threatening allergic reaction to an antibiotic. I was in the hospital for 8 days – I could have died. It was a 4 month recovery. It not only made me stronger – but gave me an appreciation for life and those who are most important in mine!More about Phil Lipof
