Patience Hettrick has been named news director at WGGB-TV ABC 40 and WSHM-LD CBS 3 (CBS 3 Springfield) in Springfield, MA.

Patience comes to WGGB/WSHM from Meredith Corp sister station WFSB-TV CBS 3 in Hartford, CT where she has been for 16 years, most recently as assistant news director.

Patience joins WGGB/WSHM during a time of transition at both stations.

"I'm excited and honored to join the team" Patience tells New England One.  "We've been busy working on a new brand that will be unveiled in April.  I can't wait to show our new product to the viewers of Western Massachusetts."

Meredith has owned WSHM since 2003, and started a news operation at the station in 2005. WSHM has been operated as a semi-satellite of WFSB, and master control and some internal operations of WSHM are based at the WFSB studios in Rocky Hill, CT.

In October 2014, Meredith also acquired WGGB from Gormally Broadcasting, creating a duopoly with WSHM. The duopoly with WSHM is a unique case because FCC broadcast ownership rules normally forbid same-market ownership of two of the four highest-rated television stations. Even though the Springfield market only has 3 full-powed television stations, the duopoly is permissible under FCC rules which allow common ownership of a full-power (WGGB) and low-power (WSHM) television station in all markets. FOX 6 Springfield doesn't count as a television station under ownership rules because it's technically a secondary affiliation on a sub-channel of WGGB.

WGGB currently produces news for both ABC 40 and FOX 6 Springfield. CBS 3 Springfield produces news, but only between 4pm-5pm, 6pm & 11pm on weekdays and at 11pm on weekends.

With the duopoly, Patience will manage the news operations of both stations, which Meredith is merging. WGGB is also presently undergoing an upgrade to the stations news set and image.

Patience has spent the majority of her career with Meredith at WFSB in various roles.

She has also spent a brief amount of time as an assignment editor at both WPEC-TV CBS 12 in West Palm Beach, FL; and at WVIT-TV NBC 30 in Hartford.

In addition to her work in broadcast news, Patience has also been an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College in Middletown, CT since 2006.

Patience is a 2002 graduate of the The University of Connecticut where she earned a Bachelor's degree in general studies. She is also a 2011 graduate of the University of Hartford where she achieved a Master's degree in education.
